BARCELONA 1: Out of France and into Spain! The train trip down was spectacular, the line runs along a very rugged strip of coastline that in some ways reminded me of Port Campbell and the Shipwreck coast in Victoria. The first day in Barcelona was Gaudi day!
This is the entrance to Park Guell, a large public park designed by Gaudi that was originally intended to be a garden-city housing development. It strangely reminded me of Fairy Park, it had that same atmosphere. Kids would love it because it's very imaginative, so of course I loved it too!
This is a covered market place area, the roof has beautiful mosaics on it
One of the mosaics
The famous lizard statue: people push and shove like mad to get a photo with it, I waited over 5 minutes to get this shot without it covered in people and there's still a guy in the background. It was like a rugby scrum
The view from the very top of the park
Gaudi's house, now a musuem filled with his furniture, designs, sculptures, plans and other items
Another part of the park that is like a series of caves
The public square of the park, lined with mosaic covered benches
The towers of the gatekeeper's house, said to be inspired by Hansel and Gretel
Another building that houses the visitor's centre
Sagrada Familia, an as yet unfinished church designed by Gaudi. They're currently working on it, following Gaudi's designs, and it should be in finished in 30 years apparently

La Pedrera: a World Heritage site, commissioned as a house for the MilĂ family. Apparently Gaudi designed each floor to be unique. I just love the style of it, it's so different!
