BARCELONA 3: Olympic Day! Sensing I like to plan my days around a theme? Gaudi day, Olympic day...
These are called the Fira of Barcelona, massive twin towers created for the 1929 Universal Expo
This is the Palau Nacional at the end of the Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina (a long avenue lined with fountains that light up at night), also built for the Expo. Hard to see in the photo how huge this building is!
After the Palau, I began climbing up the hill to the Olympic Precinct, there were some good views along the way when I wasn't dying of heat!
Barcelona's Olympic stadium
The torch that held the Olympic flame. The rings should be here too but some bright spark decided it would be a good idea to renovate the stadium and take them down. Of course it would be when I visit that they are renovating, don't they know who I am??
This is a big building that houses the Olympic museum, I forget the name of it!
Big sculpture thingy in the pavilion in front of the building I've forgotten the name of
Montjuic Castle, on the top of the very big hill overlooking Barcelona
The view of the harbour
The castle again. Montjuic was home to Barcelona's first inhabitants
Inside the castle was a military museum, they had some very cool stuff. These are helmets from different nations, France, UK, US etc
A real suit of armour that was really used by a real knight! I was really impressed!
