ASSISI: Perugia itself is a small city and easily seen in one day. So the following day I did a day trip out to Assisi with a girl I met in the hostel, Simona. It was nice to go sightseeing with someone else instead of by myself for a change! Assisi is one of those places where everything looks like a postcard; it's extremely picturesque
The view of the monastery and the church of St Francis set up on the hill heading into Assisi
The Basilica of St Francis, consisting of an upper and lower church
The view out over the valley from the church courtyard
Simona & I

The Tempio di Minerva, it used to be a Roman temple but is now a church
Inside the Tempio di Minerva, also called Santa Maria sopra (above) Minerva; an extremely decorative Baroque church. Lots of gold!
Me in front of one of Assisi's many winding little lanes: I think you'd be very fit living in this town with everything built on the side of the hill
The Basilica di Santa Chiara. Santa Chiara was a follower of St Francis, who co-founded the order of the Poor Clares with him
The facade of the Romanesque cathedral: it's covered in monsters and animals and strange little figurines
Underneath the cathedral is a huge excavated area containing relics and other archeological finds, including traces of other churches built on this site before the cathedral. It seems they liked to build over the top of things a lot!
Me obstructing another postcard view
The tiny streets of Assisi, the sky was a stunning blue that as usual hasn't come out in the picture

Anyone up for eating some donkey's testicles, some wild boar sausage, a "priest's hip flask" (whatever that is!!), the leg of a wild boar, or some piglet salami for tea tonight? Yum yum I know I am!
